SCOURING FOR PREY (2006) Photos

Scouring for Prey is a piece that incorporates motors, a water pump, lights, sensors, a microcontroller, wire, plastic sheeting, and more to create an environment where an eagle, mounted on and projecting out of a styrafoam block seems to float high above a makeshift valley/ravine down below, in search of food. This is an interactive landscape however, where the movements of the viewer/user activates the eagle’s movement and the amount of water that flows through the system. The viewer is both literally and conceptually projected into the momentary narrative of the scene that might be seen in the wild-west.

Materials: Basic Stamp Microcontroller, wood, water pump, water pan, plastic sheeting, photo of eagle, gator board, coat hangar, ultrasonic rangefinder, solid state relay switch, power cables, steel reinforcements
