Within the GMU MIX Makerspace, there are two large wall-mountable plastic First Aid Kit boxes that have latches that allows for the kit boxes to be mounted to the wall, with shutter-like doors that open, with gauze and other products in the doors and center, similar to a two-door upright refrigerator. The latch to one of the kit boxes must have broken off prior to my arrival and was never replaced, leaving the box table-top bound. Within most Makerspaces, I would venture to say that counter-space is valuable, and ventured to recreate the interestingly shaped latch to make it possible to mount it on the wall again.

I first 3D scanned the latch from the First Aid Kit box that still had a latch. The scan was not complete or great, however, it had all of the necessary elements to allow me to recreate it. Additionally, it gave me a reference to proportions and angles that were required in the final newly created latch. I used Maya since the shape of the latch had so many organic elements, it made it easier to model, then bring into Fusion and size and make small edits for printing.
