CRATERs: Collaborative Research-space for Art, Technology, Engineering, Robotics and Skateboarding.

The CRATERs : Finding A Line Bowl was initially built by Dave Mutarelli (Lifetime Decks LLC) and Ben Ashworth (Sculpture Faculty at GMU) IN 2015 as commissioned by The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. The Kennedy Center’s “Finding A Line” event was led by the center’s VP of Community Engagement, Garth Ross, which hosted a number of professional skateboarders, musicians, artists, and the public to come skate and create together in the Center’s front yard and entrance halls. After the event, the Kennedy Center relocated the bowl to Union Market in DC, in order to serve the creative, academic and collaborative initiatives of the event. The efforts made with the event led to national recognition by a publication highlighting examples of best praxis with efforts in STEM with Art education around the US. See publication below:

Additional events have been hosted at the CRATERs Bowl including serving as conferences (ex. Corcoran Placemaking Conference), meetings (DASERs event with the CPNAS), lectures, exhibitions, artist workspace for residencies (GMU Printmaking and Sculpture, Chemi Rosado-Sejo for exhibition at Georgetown Gallery), and more.

In 2021, the Finding A Line/CRATERs Bowl was given to Yale University Schwartzman Center to continue its journey serving the local community in New Haven, CT, drawing locals into yet another creative ecosystem that benefits their creative community.
