IT’S LIKE BEING IN A WESTERN MOVIE (2006)

It’s Like Being In A Western Movie (2006) is a generative video-glitch-based project using custom built software that randomly sets the playhead at certain points replaying different parts of a segment of a video from a 1971 interview of Andy Warhol talking about the world of art, New York City, and his work. The software controlled video segment had an old TV connected to a computer that played indefinitely throughout the life of the exhibition. The work exhibited in Texas at a few galleries, one being the CVAD Gallery at the Universtiy of North Texas.
In the complete segment, (27 – 44 second marker) Warhol states the following: “I just think we read alot of um comic books, and it just happened to come out then….because comic books make things uh the way they are today. I mean the way things happen in New York now, it’s like being in a western movie.”
The below video segment from youtube is what was used to create the glitch-based video work. The original work has been sold.
